Why Integrated Management of Intellectual Property Matters
Intellectual property (I.P.) is increasingly becoming an issue of central importance to enterprises of all sizes. Indeed, in a recent survey of Fortune 500 executives, three quarters considered I.P. assets a top five issue for their corporations and half considered them a top three issue (C. Huston, “Survey of I.P. Monetization Techniques”, Intellectual Property Today (October 2004 pp. 32-35), citing Accenture, Inc. survey). The ability to acquire, smartly manage, and optimally leverage I.P. is, therefore, fundamentally important and critical to corporate success and growth. Frequently, however, corporate I.P. asset development and leveraging activities become misaligned and/or non-integrated with the broader product development and commercialization strategies they are intended to serve.
At AURORA NOVA, we understand that the design and implementation of a comprehensive and integrated I.P. strategy and asset management plan – one that is properly integrated with commercialization strategy – is a
“make or break” for most enterprises. Accordingly, we help our clients better integrate their I.P. strategies and activities with broader business strategies and activities, in order to avoid misalignment pitfalls and maximize return-on-investment.
